Why I love the Singing Budgie

Fresh off the set of Neighbors and into the pop music world Kylie Minogue’s critics wasted no time attacking the Australian beauties vocals.  The Singing Budgie as she was harshly titled would soon go on to prove all her critics wrong and carve herself a respectful position in the pop music world that has lasted for over 24 years. Kylie has given us some amazing pop gems over the years and here is my top 5 choice for the best of Kylie Minogue.

5. I Should Be So Lucky (1987)
Alright so this track is hardly her most sophisticated (ok it’s her least) but without this iconic track about unrequited love Kylie wouldn’t have made that first step from Locomotion to Australia’s darling and who can resist the urge to bop along with Kylie’s awesome 80ies hairdo/don’t.

4.  Red Blooded Woman (2004)
“You’ll never get to heaven if you’re scared of getting high” Kylie coos as the chorus for this delicious RnB track gets started. It’s a shame this track wasn’t a bigger hit as the entire Body Language album is a true pop masterpiece more so (dare I say) than her Fever album.

3.  Better The Devil You Know (1990)
Every Saturday night at London’s G-A-Y club at 12:30am this classic track gets blasted onto the dance floor.  The track deals with a lover who isn’t treating Kylie very well but she believes that “it’s better the devil you know” which probably isn’t the best mindset for such a situation. Whether or not you agree with the psychology behind the lyrics it’s hard to resist the catchy chorus and disco beats.

2. Finer Feeling (1992)
Referencing Marvin Gaye in this track, Kylie takes a logical deduction about love and sex and turns it into one of the most beautiful tracks of her career. Along with the gorgeous music video (which I believe to be Kylie’s best music video) Finer Feelings is truly a masterpiece, I better stop before I start gushing about my love for this number.

1 . Confide In Me (1994)
After leaving her original label of PWL and the guiding hands of Stock, Aitken and Waterman Kylie turned her old image and sound on it’s head. DeConstruction label allowed Kylie the freedom to choose producers and experiment with new sounds. Confide In Me is the product of such freedoms. The track is hypnotic and shows that Kylie is no Singing Budgie but a true song bird.

Check back in next few days for yet another new post on a pop music diva!
